Dallas Mavericks owner and “Shark Tank” personality, Mark Cuban, has offered a surprising, lighthearted look back at a brief moment during the 2024 Presidential campaign when he was seriously approached about potentially joining Kamala Harris’ Vice Presidency. In an interview on the “Bulworthy” podcast, relayed exclusively to *Us*.
The conversation began when host Tim Miller reportedly shared “green-room gossip” about behind-beside negotiations between the Harris campaign and the selection process surrounding the VP position. Cuban revealed that he’d had brief discussions with the team before Minnesota Governor Timothy Waltz was ultimately chosen. However, according to his account, he declined to send in a formal Vice Presidential qualification document because “the list would be too long.”
When pressed, Cuban gave his candid assessment. “Yeah,” he confided. “The second part of that, my response, was I’m not very good as the Number Two person.” He stated unequivocally: “I’m not real good at shaking hands and kissing babies.”
Cuban clearly didn’t feel his direct communication style and background meshed perfectly with what they were seeking, admitting, “It would have been different, but it would have been awful! She would have fired me within six days.” He cleverly compared the prospect with the reality that Harris would have seen him, a blunt, no-frills type, as incompatible for the high-pressure, polished role.
Interestingly, this recollection arose within the context of Cuban’s established support for Harris leading up to the election despite his longstanding conflict with Donald Trump. Prior to the November 2024 general election, Cuban actively campaigned alongside her – a declaration aligning with the desire of a “positive leader “ who “inspires you to do great things”– rather than focusing on trash-talk or divisive rhetoric.
This instance isn’t new for the business magnate. In previous years, he entertained the possibility of a presidential bid himself. It was as far back as 2019 when he told the *New York Daily News* he was “strongly considering running” as a presidential candidate and confirmed having commissioned a sample poll which showed results showed he’d only achieve a measly 25% in a head-to-head against Trump & Biden.
Beyond this political anecdote, Cuban recently celebrated his exit from the successful and long-running “Shark Tank,” stating the show simply “blew up” to an unexpected success. Now a newly-free entrepreneur, he offered his gratitude to fellow contestants and revealed his hope in being partly responsible for creating some millionaires along the way. He leaves ‘Shark Tank’ as one of television’s most well-known, outspoken, and successful figures, a man constantly pushing boundaries – now beyond the boardroom.
