90210’s Ian Ziering Mourns Shannen Doherty in Touching Tribute

Members of the *Beverly Hills, 90210* cast have begun to share heartfelt tributes following the passing of Shannen Doherty.

“Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,” Jason Priestley wrote via Instagram on Sunday, July 14. “She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

News of Doherty’s death, which came in the early hours of Sunday, confirmed by her publicist Leslie Sloane, revealed she passed away at age 53 after a years-long battle with cancer. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog, Bowie.

Doherty was initially diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in 2015 and publicly announced her diagnosis in 2017. Despite her courageous fight, the cancer spread to her bones. “I don’t want to die,” she told *People* in November 2023. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”

Throughout her battle, Doherty’s friends and costars have offered their support. Carol Potter, who played Cindy Walsh, wrote, “Shocked and saddened by news of Shannen Doherty’s death. What a journey she has been on!” Gabrielle Carteris penned, “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long time friend Shannen.” Brian Austin Green shared, “Shan. My sister… you loved me through everything.” Matthew Laurance reminisced, “This is the way I choose to remember her,” while Tori Spelling offered a particularly poignant tribute reflecting their 15-year friendship. Jennie Garth described Doherty as “one of the strongest people I have ever known.” James Eckhouse, who played Doherty’s father, Jim Walsh, expressed his sadness, noting her “ferocious” spirit and fight.

Ian Ziering, who portrayed Steve Sanders, marked the one-year anniversary of Doherty’s death with a heartfelt post. “When she died a year ago, I didn’t post anything. And yes, some people criticized that. To them I say: grief isn’t a performance. It’s personal. Let people grieve how they grieve,” he wrote alongside a photo of the pair hugging on July 14, 2025. “I miss Shannen. We clashed now and then in the early years of 90210—two strong personalities will do that—but we always had respect. I was the wisecracking comic relief; she was the beautiful chaos, the after-hours headline, the girl who could trash a hotel room and make the tabloids love her for it. (Stop laughing, Shan. You know it’s true.).”
