Harper Murray Opens Up on Nebraska Volleyball Pressure Just Days Before 2025 NCAA Season: ‘Letting People Down’

August 16, 2025 – Lincoln, Nebraska, USA – Harper Murray, outside hitter for the Nebraska Huskers, has discussed the immense pressure surrounding the team as they prepare for the 2025 NCAA season. Speaking just days before their season opener against Pitt Volleyball on August 22nd, Murray acknowledged the weight of expectation and the consequences of falling short.

Murray revealed that the team feels a responsibility to uphold Nebraska’s legacy and the faith of its record-setting fan base. “It’s a blessing in disguise,” Murray stated. “Of course, we want high expectations, and we have that for ourselves, but when we don’t achieve it, we know we’re letting a lot of people down—and ourselves, too. So, I think it comes with a lot of pressure, but at the same time, we have to flip it.”

The pressure stems in part from former head coach John Cook’s belief that failing to win a national championship constitutes a “failure” to fans. Murray emphasized the team’s commitment to achieving a national title, highlighting a goal established since arriving at the collegiate level: “Bergen, Andy, Laney, and I have always told each other, since coming into college, that we would win a minimum of two.”

Despite falling short in previous seasons, including a title loss to Texas as a freshman, the team’s ambition remains steadfast. “Maybe we need to redo this and tell Dani our deal. It’s always been a goal of ours,” Murray commented, referencing Dani Busboom Kelly as head coach.

Murray’s remarks come ahead of a season filled with significant expectations. The team’s success, whether measured by winning a national championship or simply earning the support of its devoted fanbase, will be paramount.
