ANAHEIM, Calif. – Pete Crow-Armstrong’s tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning and Kyle Tucker’s first home run in over a month propelled the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. The win marked the Cubs’ opening game of a nine-game trip.
Crow-Armstrong’s solo shot, a 396-foot blast into the right-field stands, came off Kenley Jansen (5-4) with one out in the ninth. It was Crow-Armstrong’s 28th home run of the season and his first hit in his last 25 plate appearances.
Kyle Tucker also contributed a solo shot in the first inning off Tyler Anderson (4-3) after enduring a 25-game homerless drought, the longest since his rookie season in 2018.
Yoán Moncada provided the Angels with two home runs – one in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2 – marking his first multihomer game with Los Angeles.
Javier Assad delivered a strong six-inning performance for the Cubs, limiting the Angels to one run and five strikeouts before Moncada’s first-inning home run.
Brad Keller (4-1) secured the win with a perfect eighth inning, while Daniel Palencia recorded a 1-2-3 ninth for his 19th save.
Tyler Anderson permitted two runs and three hits in five innings, racking up five strikeouts and two walks. The Angels’ right-hander has been without a win in his last 21 starts.
