Russell Wilson Nears Career-High Performance as Giants Fall to Cowboys

Arlington, Texas – Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson delivered a standout performance for the New York Giants on Sunday, posting career-high passing yardage in a 40-37 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Wilson’s efforts, marked by three touchdown passes, culminated in a thrilling, overtime defeat.

The veteran quarterback completed 30 of his 41 pass attempts for a remarkable 450 yards, showcasing a resurgence after a lackluster debut against the Washington Commanders in Week 1. He added three carries for 23 yards to the rushing attack. A 29-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Malik Nabers in the second quarter ignited the Giants’ offense, putting them ahead 13-3. Later, with just 2:44 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wilson connected with Wan’Dale Robinson for a 32-yard touchdown, solidifying a 37-34 lead.

However, the Giants’ momentum was abruptly halted when Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey converted a 64-yard field goal as time expired, forcing overtime. Dallas ultimately secured the victory.

Wilson’s performance represents a significant improvement from his initial appearance for the Giants, where he completed just 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards and no touchdowns. Prior to this game, Wilson’s 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers had yielded 2,482 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions, alongside 43 rushing attempts for 155 yards and two rushing scores.

The Giants will look to snap their losing streak and secure their first win of the season when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, September 21st.
