Baltimore, MD – Retired Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce surprised viewers and fellow musicians alike during the Monday, September 22nd pre-game broadcast of the Baltimore Ravens versus Detroit Lions matchup at M&T Bank Stadium. Kelce, now a commentator for Monday Night Countdown, joined the Ravens marching band, playing the baritone saxophone while they performed a rendition of the Monday Night Football theme song.
The performance, captured on camera, saw Kelce, sporting a purple uniform and black hat with a chin strap grazing his nose, enthusiastically cheer and high-five band members following the song’s conclusion.
The NFL shared clips of the performance via Instagram, and his brother, Travis Kelce, also posted a video on their “New Heights” account. Travis commented, “LETS F*ING GOOOOOO!!! He’s killlin it!!!”
During a 2024 episode of “New Heights,” Kelce discussed the significance of the saxophone in his life, attributing his success both in sports and in other areas to the lessons learned through musical pursuits. “Mr. Baker was the band director, as well as the Jazz Ensemble director and man, I tell people this all the time,” Kelce stated. “I really think playing band and playing music in general has allowed me to excel in sport and other things, because, as with anything, I encourage kids to play as many sports, do as many extracurriculars as you can that you enjoy, because you end up drawing things from each one of those that is unique and different.”
Kelce emphasized the importance of practice and acknowledging mistakes as part of the learning process. “The first time you pick up that instrument, then try to play anything, you are going to be terrible,” he said. “But the more you practice at it, you will get good. Like, it’s that simple. It’s just so right in your face. How much that affects how you play.”
Kelce’s wife, Kylie, highlighted his well-rounded nature during high school, noting his involvement with the saxophone and expressing their family’s support for their daughters pursuing musical and artistic endeavors.
