Keith Thurman must be scratching his head. Spot on: Deja vu must have struck. Last March, he was scheduled to face Tim Tszyu. However, the title clash, his first fight since Feb 2022, caved in after he suffered a hand injury. In stepped 6-foot-5.5-inch-tall Sebastian Fundora, fresh off the devastating KO loss to Brian Mendoza months earlier. A year on, it seems Thurman’s dreams for a title will still remain unfilled, at least for the time being.
Fresh reports reveal Sebastian Fundora has suffered a hand injury. It seems to have occurred during a training session. Fundora and Keith Thurman were slated for a showdown at the MGM Grand Arena this month-end on October 25. Now the PBC Amazon Prime event will not happen on the scheduled date. All the important fights on the card have now been shifted to the year-end show on December 6, headlined by Isaac Cruz vs. Lamont Roach Jr.
Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman clash faces unexpected hurdle
“Breaking: per source directly involved, Sebastian Fundora has a hand injury, and the Oct. 25 PBC on Prime Video PPV card is postponed,” eminent boxing journalist Dan Rafael tweeted earlier. Further additions appeared: “PBC has announced the entire event is ppd (postponed).”
PBC has announced entire event is ppd. Per source involved, Jesus Ramos-Shane Mosley Jr. & Isaac Lucero-Roberto Valenzuela Jr. bouts from Fundora-Thurman PPV undercard likely will now be on the #PitbullRoach PPV undercard along with Janibek-Lara 160 unification as the co-feature. https://t.co/E64nkkvP7v

Scheduled on the Fundora-Thurman undercard, bouts such as Jesus Ramos vs. Shane Mosley Jr. and Isaac Lucero vs. Roberto Valenzuela Jr. will likely take place on the Cruz-Roach Jr. show. The October 25 co-main, O’Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton for the super featherweight title, may also shift.
Sebastian Fundora planned to close the year with a big-bang victory over Keith Thurman, a former unified welterweight champion. He came off a thrilling *Fight of the Year* exchange against Chordale Booker in March. A convincing win over Tim Tszyu in a July rematch subsequently followed.
The latest development has seemingly put PBC in the hot seat.
PBC in the spotlight after card shake-up
Many followers wondered: why can’t the organizers move the Foster-Fulton co-main to the headliner and let the October 25 show continue? Noted boxing insider Rick Glaser wrote, “The real reason the Fundora-Thurman show is off is that it was DOA, Dead On Arrival. No ticket sales, as in none, & without any PPV guarantees from Amazon, coupled with the fact that PBC pays all production costs, it would’ve been a financial bloodbath! It’s Boxing the PBC way!”
To be fair, Sebastian Fundora vs. Keith Thurman could have been PBC’s sixth event this year. Kicking off with the David Benavidez-David Morrell showdown, they moved to the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Peterson Jr. headliner. Weeks later, Fundora-Booker took place.
On May 31, Michelob Ultra Arena hosted Caleb Plant vs. Jose Armando Resendiz. The show marked Jermall Charlo’s comeback after a two-year layoff. PBC closed the summer schedule with Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios’ title clash.
They have an event lined up on November 14 at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Featuring Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul’s exhibition, the PBC-MVP (Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions) show has Gary Antuanne Russell and Alycia Baumgardner defending their respective titles.
Fans will have to wait and watch as more details emerge in days to come.
Do you think organizers could have made the Forster-Fulton fight the main event instead of postponing the whole card?
