Forgotten MLB Veteran Sends Emotional Plea to LA Angels After Albert Pujols Dream Shattered

Bo Porter, who is a respected figure in the Los Angeles Angels clubhouse, is not holding back—he wants the manager job. The former Astros skipper has spent the last two seasons on the Angels coaching staff and served as the third base coach in 2025. And he made it clear that he wants to step into the dugout as a leader next time.

Porter told The Athletic, “I would enjoy managing the Angels because I’ve been there the last two years; I’ve made an investment there. The relationships have already been fortified.” His time on Ron Washington’s staff after Washington took a leave for medical reasons in June and later stepped away reignited the passion in him for management.

Porter mentioned, “Now that I’ve been back on the field with managerial experience, you see the game through a different lens; the game slows down because you’ve been in that position where you made those decisions… I’m better prepared to manage. I needed to get back on the field.” And right now, maybe the timing is great.

The dream for a moment seemed out of reach because Albert Pujols was in the picture. But now that deal is officially off the table. Mark Feinsand confirmed that Pujols will not be taking the reins, and with the Orioles and Padres still circling him, the Los Angeles Angels are back to square one in that search. That development, however, has only made Porter’s resolve to get on that manager podium get stronger.

Though he has not had an official interview yet, Bo Porter has communicated his view directly to the GM, Perry Minasian. “I expressed my interest to [owner Arte Moreno] that I would love to interview for the job. That’s something [general manager Perry Minasian] would have to take back to Arte, and they can make that decision. I believe I have a lot to offer to any organization that gives me a second chance.”

At 53 years old, Porter’s resume is great, given that he managed the rebuilding Houston Astros team from 2013 to 2014. He coached with multiple MLB teams, and he spent years off the field in broadcasting and league offices. His story truly is one of perseverance, and now he wants what he feels is rightfully his—acknowledgement.

If not the Angels, where will Albert Pujols land?

Albert Pujols’ managerial future is heating up, and the big question, given the Angels are not in question, is that—if not LA, then where? Now, Baltimore seems to be a strong contender. The sources have told ESPN that the Baltimore Orioles need a manager to guide their young core, and they seem to be interested in the future Hall of Famer.

However, the Baltimore Orioles personnel have not interviewed Pujols yet. But given that Brandon Hyde was fired after that rough start in 2025 and interim manager Tony Mansolino is holding the reins, the team seems to be exploring the options. Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias knows Pujols from his days with the St. Louis Cardinals. Plus, the slugger is also tied to Jackson Holliday, who is a key part of the Orioles. These elements of familiarity can all make Baltimore a safe and comfortable landing spot for Pujols.

Plus, Baltimore is a “team on the rise,” even though they had a rough 2025. After a 101-win stint in 2023 and another playoff appearance in 2024, the Orioles surely stumbled this time. But that being said, they have young talent—Jackson Holliday, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo, and Samuel Basallo—that is undeniable. Pujols has been prepping for the next big step for years, having led the Dominican winter ball team and also being named manager for the Dominican Republic in next year’s World Baseball Classic. Now, whether the Orioles or someone else lands this gem, it is surely going to be a no-brainer.
