Everything You Need to Know About Yellowstone’s Kayce Spinoff: Planned Cameos and More

The Yellowstone universe is expanding with a brand new spinoff focusing on Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton. Following the success of *Yellowstone*, which premiered in 2018 and introduced viewers to the Dutton family’s sprawling Montana ranch, creator Taylor Sheridan has continued to build upon the world with prequels like *1883* and *1923*.

CBS has ordered *Y: Marshals*, a series following Kayce’s departure from the Yellowstone ranch to join the U.S. Marshals, after the conclusion of *Yellowstone* in December 2024. As Luke Grimes put it via Instagram, “Cowboys don’t say goodbye, they say see you later.”

When Will ‘Y: Marshals’ Premiere on CBS?

The highly anticipated series is scheduled to premiere in spring 2026 on CBS as a midseason replacement, airing on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Spencer Hudnut, previously working on *SEAL Team*, serves as the show’s writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Taylor Sheridan is also an executive producer, with CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach stating, “In terms of Taylor’s involvement, we’re still early in the process. He’s a very busy guy, but we’ll take what we can get.”

What Is the Spinoff About?

According to the official synopsis, *Y: Marshals* follows Kayce leaving “ranching life behind to join an elite unit” of U.S. Marshals. Combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL, he’ll bring range justice to Montana, balancing family, duty, and the psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense against violence in the region.

Who Makes Up the Cast?

Joining Grimes are Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen, and Logan Marshall Green. Kebbel, Santos, and Means will play Belle, Andrea, and Miles, respectively, while Cullen plays Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana.

Are ‘Yellowstone’ Stars on ‘Y:Marshals’?

Several familiar faces are returning. Gil Birmingham will officially be back as Thomas Rainwater, Mo Brings Plenty will return as Mo, and Brecken Merrill will resume his role as Kayce’s son, Tate Dutton. Kelly Reilly is leading her own spinoff alongside Cole Hauser, though this project is still in development. Kevin Costner isn’t expected to return, unless as a flashback appearance, following the death of the family patriarch in the *Yellowstone* finale. There has also been no word on whether Wes Bentley will appear as Jamie Dutton.

Is Monica on Kayce’s ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff?

A notable absence so far is Kelsey Asbille, who played Kayce’s wife, Monica Dutton, on *Yellowstone*. Her inclusion in *Y: Marshals* has yet to be announced. In a sneak peek, Kayce is seen saying, “I’m changing paths. Trying to find a new beginning.”
