Alvin Kamara is facing a critical crossroads. The Saints’ star running back has battled through an injury, missing practice time this week, yet continues to suit up, despite diminished production. Last week against the Rams, he managed just 17 yards on seven touches, marking his third straight game outside the top 30 at his position. When Kay Adams raised the possibility of a fresh start, former NFL star Darren Sproles offered a different perspective: “Loyalty. He wants to be a Saint forever.”
However, Sproles believes Kamara’s best chance at a Super Bowl ring lies elsewhere. “I would like to see him, like me personally, I want to see him win a Super Bowl. And I feel like his best chances, I feel like right now, if he could have got to like the Kansas City or to somewhere like that, he would have had a chance. But like right now in New Orleans, they’re in the rebuilding. It’s a tough spot.”
This year, Kamara has 106 carries for 377 yards and one touchdown in nine games. Despite his impressive career – 1,649 carries for 7,156 yards, 601 catches for 4,912 yards, and 87 total touchdowns – he’s showing signs of decline in New Orleans.
The Chiefs could benefit significantly from Kamara’s experience and skills. Facing a thin run game without Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs’ offense looked off-balance in a 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Brashard Smith and Clyde Edwards-Helaire combined for just 12 yards on five carries, inviting defenses to blitz. Alvin Kamara’s reliability and versatility – a five-time Pro Bowler – would provide a crucial spark for Andy Reid’s system. As the bye week continues, the Chiefs are seeking answers, and Kamara’s potential arrival could be a game-changer.
