MEXICO CITY – The Mexico City LMP Charros cemented their dominance in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol Profesional (LMP) on Sunday, securing a resounding 8-3 victory against the Tijuana Toros, marking their fifth consecutive win of the season. The victory was spearheaded by a stellar performance from designated hitter, Julian Ornelas, who delivered a game-changing grand slam in the seventh inning.
The Charros’ offensive explosion began in the second, capitalizing on three Toros errors and a single run driven in by shortstop Ricardo Diaz. The Toros managed to tie the game with two runs in the fourth inning, but the Charros swiftly responded. Ornelas stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded in the seventh, connecting powerfully on a towering fly ball that cleared the left-field fence, providing a critical 4-2 lead.
“Julian really stepped up when we needed him,” commented Charros manager, Ernesto Vargas, in a post-game interview. “He’s been working incredibly hard, and to see him hit that grand slam was just fantastic. It really boosted the team’s morale.”
Starting pitcher, Carlos Ramirez, pitched six strong innings, allowing only four hits and three earned runs before being replaced by reliever Miguel Soto, who secured the final three innings without surrendering a run.
Beyond Ornelas’ heroic grand slam, the Charros demonstrated a balanced offensive effort, with contributions from second baseman Hector Gomez, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and first baseman Francisco Sanchez, who recorded two RBIs.
The Toros’ offense struggled throughout the game, failing to generate consistent threats against the Charros’ pitching staff. Their three runs were spread across the fourth and sixth innings.
With this victory, the LMP Charros improve their record to 8-2, placing them firmly at the top of the LMP standings. The team will look to continue their winning streak when they face the Puebla Vipers next Friday.
