NFC North Standings: Packers Win Over Bears Impacts Division Race, Playoff Picture

GREEN BAY, WI – The Green Bay Packers solidified their position atop the NFC North standings following a hard-fought victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, while the Detroit Lions’ Thursday night win keeps them in contention for a playoff berth. As the regular season nears its conclusion, the division race is tightening, and the playoff picture remains fluid.

The Packers’ win propelled them to first place in the division, taking the lead from the Bears. The Packers’ tie gives the team a slight advantage. Meanwhile, the Bears drop to second place, but remain firmly in the wild-card mix. The Lions will stay put in third place, but Sunday’s results mean they are one game closer to second place in the standings. Finally, the Minnesota Vikings are all but sure to finish in last place a year after finishing with a 14-3 record.

As of Monday, December 8, 2025, the NFC North standings are as follows:

NFC North Standings

| Rank | Team | Record |
|——|—————|——–|
| 1 | Green Bay Packers | 9-3-1 |
| 2 | Chicago Bears | 9-4 |
| 3 | Detroit Lions | 8-5 |
| 4 | Minnesota Vikings| 5-8 |

The Packers’ schedule for the remainder of the season includes a road game against the Denver Broncos (December 14 at 4:25 p.m. CBS), a home game against the Bears (December 20 at 8:20 p.m. Fox), and a potentially favorable matchup against a depleted Baltimore Ravens (TBD).

The Chicago Bears face a challenging schedule, starting with a home game against the Cleveland Browns (December 14 at 1:00 p.m. Fox), followed by a road game against the Packers (December 20 at 8:20 p.m. Fox), and culminating in a critical wild-card battle against the San Francisco 49ers (December 28 at 8:20 p.m. NBC).

The Detroit Lions, struggling to secure a playoff berth, have three of their last four games on the road, all against teams currently in playoff positioning, while the Lions sit outside of the playoffs themselves. Detroit already lost to the Packers twice this year, but the team could beat the Bears twice if they win the final game of the season. That would give the Lions the tiebreak over Chicago.

The Sporting News will continue to provide updates on the NFC North and the broader NFL playoff picture as the season progresses.
