Bears vs. Cowboys: 5 Plays that Stood Out from Week 3 Win

The Chicago Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys. It wasn’t a close win, either. Chicago really took it to Dallas to the tune of a 31-14 victory. After two division losses to begin the season, the Bears dug themselves a hole, but this was a great way to begin to turn this thing around. Chicago’s offense under head coach Ben Johnson has been looking better and better each week. However, after a meltdown in Week 2, the defense bounced back in a big way, which complemented this improving offense.

When you have a multi-touchdown victory, there are going to be lots of nice plays on both sides of the ball to pick from when making a highlight reel. These are the top five plays from the game:

1. Tyrique Stevenson strips the ball to create a turnover

Less than three minutes into the football game, Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson stripped the ball from the Dallas Cowboys runner and kept it for himself in-bounds. This turnover led to the Bears’ first touchdown of the day — a Caleb Williams to Rome Odunze 35 yarder — after an early three-and-out to start the game. Stevenson has a lot of pressure on him. After the way last year went and the first two games, he is on a short leash to give a great effort week in and week out. This was a big play for him to gain some confidence to build on.

2. Caleb Williams’ TD pass to Rome Odunze

The moment that capped off the Bears’ taking advantage of the Stevenson play was a Caleb Williams 35-yard pass to Rome Odunze for the first touchdown of the game. Odunze now has four on the season — which is tied for the most in the NFL — and at least one in every game this season.

3. Flea flicker TD from Caleb Williams to Luther Burden III

Ben Johnson pulled this one out from his bag of tricks, and it defined the offense in this game. D’Andre Swift took the handoff and then flipped the ball back to Caleb Williams (although it was an ugly pitch from Swift) and Williams connected with rookie receiver Luther Burden III for his first career touchdown. Burden led the team with 101 yards, and this play was a key to him reaching that milestone. The Bears would never even attempt a play like this under former coaches, but Johnson is different. The creativity that he put on display in Detroit is now on display in Chicago.

4. Caleb Williams’ TD pass to DJ Moore

Caleb Williams had a career day against the Cowboys. His fourth and final touchdown pass of the day was a brilliant move to find a wide-open DJ Moore in the back of the endzone. These two have had some up-and-down chemistry so far, and this play was more on the “up” side of things.

5. Tremaine Edmunds’ diving interception

The Bears have been looking more from their defense as a whole for a while, and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been a part of that. He performed in a big way in Chicago’s win over Dallas. Edmunds had two interceptions, but this diving one off the Cowboys receiver was the one worth mentioning here because of the skill involved. He read the play perfectly and made an athletic move to come away with the pick. If the Bears can get this Edmunds more often, the middle of their defense will reap the rewards.
