Green Bay, WI – Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has delivered a clear message of trust to quarterback Jordan Love following a crucial 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The decision to go for it on 4th down in the fourth quarter, a move that ultimately secured the win, underscored LaFleur’s confidence in Love’s ability to handle the pressure.
Love, who had previously expressed concerns about making a mistake at a pivotal moment in the game, revealed the situation prompted the creation of three specific plays designed for that scenario. However, during a timeout, LaFleur and Love discussed the options, ultimately opting for the aggressive play. “Scared money don’t make money,” LaFleur stated afterward. “Sometimes you’ve got to shoot.”
The decision paid off spectacularly. Following the successful 4th down conversion, tight end Tucker Kraft caught a pass, gaining a fresh set of downs. Running back Josh Jacobs then capitalized, scoring a 1-yard touchdown.
Love praised LaFleur’s trust, saying, “It’s gonna suck if you don’t get it,” and acknowledging, “we went out there and executed it.” Jacobs, who had been listed as questionable due to illness and a calf problem, added 13 carries for 55 yards.
The win – the Packers’ fourth in six games – propelled them back to the top of the NFC North.
Kraft also made a significant contribution, recording 5 receptions for 58 yards and scoring the game-equalizing touchdown.
Adding to the team effort was the challenging travel situation – the Packers’ flight was delayed by five hours due to a technical issue. Despite these obstacles, LaFleur’s faith in Love and the team’s execution ultimately prevailed.
