Their drivers aren’t just showing up, they’re showing out, especially on the short tracks that matter most. With Richmond’s top-five sweep and playoff-heavy circuits like Phoenix and Martinsville on the horizon, even insiders are buzzing about the team’s momentum.

Team Penske’s short-track revival signals NASCAR playoff threat

According to motorsports journalist Jeff Gluck on ‘The Teardown’ podcast, Penske has recently regained its prominence on the kinds of tracks that have long been its niche, such as New Hampshire, Martinsville, and Phoenix.

Team Penske, finishing with all three cars in the top five. Plus, Josh Berry finished eighth. This is very scary for the field because this is exactly the kind of track. Penske has been a non-factor for much of the summer. Now, all of a sudden, they return to one of these tracks that is their bread and butter.

The success of Team Penske at those tracks is firmly based on performance, not speculation. The NASCAR gallery of Penske’s Cup-level victories shows that the team has won at least four times in New Hampshire: in 1993, 2008, 2014, and 2020. Brad Keselowski won in both 2014 and 2020, adding to the team’s strong track record at the venue.

However, Keselowski now drives for RFK Racing and hasn’t yet secured a playoff spot this season. Still, as we’re talking about Penske, the spotlight remains on their impressive resurgence on short tracks.

“Oh, it just so happens now that New Hampshire, it’s not just the July race, it’s in the playoffs. And then of course you have Martinsville and Phoenix, these similar style tracks that they’re so good at,” he added.

Also noting that, meanwhile, Hendrick Motorsports, whose drivers occupy the top standing, has displayed uncharacteristic inconsistency on these flat circuits. “By the way, you know who struggles there at those style tracks? Hendrick Motorsports.”

In 2024, at the “Fantasy Fastlane,” New Hampshire was a weak link for Hendrick, with William Byron failing to record a single top-10 in six starts there, and the last Hendrick win at the track was by Kasey Kahne in July 2012. That vulnerability contrasts starkly with Penske’s renewed traction.

When evaluated collectively, Penske’s unexpected surge of success at circuits designed to play to its strengths right before the NASCAR playoffs should serve as a warning to its competitors. Tracks like Phoenix, Martinsville, and New Hampshire are more than just locations now; they might serve as the starting points for Penske’s postseason comeback.

Josh Berry’s Richmond top-10 restores momentum ahead of NASCAR playoffs

At Richmond Raceway on August 16, 2025, Josh Berry piloted his machine to an eighth-place finish, completing all 400 laps and finishing 14.063 seconds behind the winner, Austin Dillon.

“It was an up-and-down day. I thought we did a really good job managing everything, but we would have liked to have been a little bit better. We just struggled with the balance a little bit. It got better in the second half for sure, but I would have liked to have been a little bit better towards the end, but all in all, a really good job for these 21 guys,” Berry told SpeedwayMedia.

Berry’s eighth-place finish was gained by his unwavering consistency; he maintained the lead lap the entire time, handled the pit stops with care, and took advantage of drivers who had late-race problems to produce one of his best performances of the season. “Tonight is what we’re capable of. Berry’s speed on such flat tracks showed off moments of brilliance.

The performance is not an unusual instance. On courses that resemble playoff settings, Berry has already shown his resolve. He won the 2021 Cook Out 250 at Martinsville Speedway, his maiden NASCAR Xfinity Series race. He led a race-high 95 laps to win, demonstrating his ability to perform well under pressure at one of NASCAR’s most difficult short courses.

Driving for Stewart-Haas but competing against Penske machines, Josh Berry secured third place in the 2024 USA Today 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Especially after achieving two consecutive top-seven finishes, including two top-five regular-season finishes at Darlington and New Hampshire. Earlier in 2025, Berry recorded a strong fourth-place finish at Phoenix Raceway. Berry’s speed on such flat tracks showed off moments of brilliance.

Veronica quipped, “You’re not emotionally intelligent.” When Micah explained, “You’re talking so far down to me” and it hurt his feelings, his partner didn’t back down.

“I’m just getting gaslit by everybody. … It’s many people gaslighting against one. But blame me for being emotionally intelligent,” Veronica quipped while speaking to Micah and his siblings Amber Plath and Ethan Plath elsewhere during the episode.

Ethan, 27, asked Veronica what needs to happen “for a clean slate,” but she said it would never be possible. “Your dad chose not to apologize. He said to Micah that he’s never treated me differently,” Veronica explained, to which Amber, 16, argued, “Maybe that’s what he thinks.”

Veronica and Micah’s issues continued to grow throughout the episode, with Veronica bringing up Micah’s past infidelity as proof that she has his back, but he allegedly doesn’t return the favor. (Micah confessed earlier this season to cheating on Veronica when they were long-distance.)

Veronica eventually confessed to speaking with Ethan’s ex-wife, Olivia Plath, behind the family’s back, which only hurt Micah even more.

“I never knew Olivia was another issue we had in between us,” Micah said after being taken aback that Veronica was calling Olivia, 27, to vent about his family following Olivia’s own problems with the Plaths prior to her and Ethan’s divorce.

Veronica insisted that talking with Olivia wasn’t an issue, but something she needed for her own sanity. “It was actually finding out the truth [that] was the issue. And finding out that two very different strong women have been accused, blamed, gaslit by the same group and they led us to believe that we were the problem.”

Micah was stunned, replying, “I think you are reading way too far into this. I have wanted nothing but to have your back. I just want to be able to see my family.”

Kelly Clarkson has reportedly resumed filming season 29 of *The Voice* after taking a brief absence to mourn the loss of ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

*Deadline* reported on Tuesday, August 19, that Clarkson, 43, returned as a coach for the NBC music competition show alongside Adam Levine and John Legend. Per the outlet, Clarkson missed one episode of shooting — a rehearsal for the battle rounds — with fellow *American Idol* alum Jennifer Hudson filling in.

Season 29 of *The Voice* is titled “Battle of Champions” and is being filmed simultaneously with season 28, which features Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire as judges. *Deadline* reported on Tuesday that McEntire, who is the former stepmother of Blackstock, has fulfilled her obligations and filming remains on track for the season. (McEntire was married to Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.)

How ‘The Voice’ Family Is Supporting Kelly Clarkson Amid Ex-Husband’s Death

After missing a handful of episodes of her eponymous daytime talk show earlier this month, Clarkson postponed the remaining August performances at her Las Vegas residency, revealing Brandon was “ill.”

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Clarkson captioned an Instagram post at the time. The exes shared two children: daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remy, 9. Brandon also shared kids Savannah and Seth with first wife Melissa Ashworth.

Brandon died the following day on August 7 after a three year battle with cancer. He was 48 years old.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” a rep for the family confirmed to *Us* at the time. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

In the days following his death, Clarkson canceled her August 17 Band Together Texas benefit concert appearance. Her talk show is currently still on track to start production in early September as scheduled, per *Deadline*, with tickets now on sale.

Earlier this week, host of *The Voice* Carson Daly exclusively told *Us Weekly* that things have been “tough” in the wake of Brandon’s death.

“We all knew Brandon well, and we are a family,” Daly, 52, told *Us*, noting that he worked with McEntire just last week. “Everything was fresh, so we’ve just been sending our prayers and support to them. It’s a terrible situation.”

He added, “It’s really no different than what you would do for your family members,” he said. “You let them know you’re there, you’re praying for them [and] you’re giving them space at the same time.”

Brandon Blackstock Secretly Battled Cancer for 3 Years Before Death

Clarkson and Brandon tied the knot in 2013. The singer filed for divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage. Their contentious split included a court battle over property and finances and was finalized in 2022, when Clarkson received full primary custody of their two children and relocated the family to New York City.

Brandon, for his part, moved to Montana and found love again with partner Brittney Marie Jones, a former production assistant of Clarkson. In addition to Jones, Blackstock is survived by his parents, his siblings, his four children and his grandchildren.
