Is it Naomi Osaka’s chance to shine at this year’s US Open? Well, not many have picked the Japanese star as a possible title contender in New York this year. Nevertheless, a 2-time champion at the US Open, Osaka knows what it takes to succeed at Flushing Meadows. Ever since winning her 4th major title all the way back at the 2021 Australian Open, Osaka hasn’t been able to advance beyond the 3rd round at any Slam. However, fellow Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters thinks that Osaka can prove everyone wrong this time around, in favor of the likes of Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka, who are the favorites on paper to win the tournament.

Ahead of Osaka’s first-round encounter against Belgium’s Greet Minnen, Clijsters was involved in an interview with Tennis Channel. Interestingly, the Belgian legend won 3 of her 4 major trophies as a mother, setting an example of mothers in the sport. With the journey she had during those victorious runs, Clijsters feels that Osaka can emulate her feat.

She revealed, “I’m going to maybe go something different than what I’ve heard everybody else say. I think I’m going to go Naomi Osaka for the title. Maybe I’m ready for another mom to win. I believe she’s playing so much better, she’s doing well so I think on the women’s side, Naomi is going to win.”

Ever since Clijsters won a Grand Slam title as a mother back in 2011 at the Australian Open, no mother has ever gone on to lift the trophy at this stage. Interestingly, Serena Williams reached the finals on four occasions after having her first child but couldn’t clear the final hurdle.

Now this isn’t the first time that Clijsters has motivated mothers in the sport. Earlier this year, she said, “I’m so ready for a new mum to hold a Grand Slam trophy. I’m proud seeing so many women [with kids] in the draw and seeing the kids walk around and their family members in the players’ restaurant. That’s what it’s all about.”

Meanwhile, Osaka has gone through a rough patch lately following a Canadian Open controversy. However, she learnt a brutal lesson and opened up about it.

Osaka revealed, “I made sure to talk to her, because I know she’s young, and I would feel really terrible if that somehow impacted her humongous success. But she said it didn’t, and she didn’t even really notice, so I was really glad about that. And I was also just really glad that she’s such a sweet girl, which honestly just made me feel even more terrible. Even going into the final, I wanted to potentially write my speech, because I know how I am with talking and doing speeches. That was kind of a lesson to stick to my instincts a little. But yeah, I’ll definitely remember to congratulate my opponents.”

It was the second screening of the Indiana Fever vs Minnesota Lynx game on August 24, 2025. The same movie with a slightly different cast. A star character made a comeback from her ankle injury to remind everyone who the real MVP is, while Indiana’s demigod, Caitlin Clark, still remained on the sidelines. Napheesa Collier dropped 32 points and 9 rebounds as the Lynx rallied from an early lull for the second time in a row.

Kelsey Mitchell and Co. got off to a hot start with a double-digit lead. Just like in their last matchup, Minnesota slowly eroded that lead in the second quarter and finally broke the dam in the third to let the points flow, eventually winning 84-97. CBS Radio Host and Sports Illustrated Analyst Robin Lundberg pointed out the obvious after Indiana’s loss.

“The Fever just don’t have enough personnel to beat you to soften that defense,” he said.

Indiana has had 17 players on the roster after starting at 11 at the beginning of the season, with players dropping like flies.

Even their emergency signings like Chloe Bibby and Odyssey Sims are suffering from injuries, leading to more shortages. Amid their crisis, the ones who are fit have to endure the baptism by fire on the court. As Lundberg further said, “You know, it’s hard to throw it to AB on the block if she’s getting doubled and even on the perimeter. There’s extra attention coming her way. You saw more and more of it as the game comes along.”

Aliyah Boston has been an anchor in the paint for the Fever till this personnel drought hit. She has been providing the physicality and doing their dirty work under the basket. While they aimed to steadily increase her creative output, that progress had to be fast-tracked because there is just no one to provide that. Literally every point guard they have had has suffered some kind of injury, and Boston has had to do a lot more of the ball handling abilities while dragging even more defenders.

There is no more Sophie Cunningham to cut inside, or Aari McDonald to take over at point guard. Kelsey Mitchell has had to take up a more creative role, too. As a result of the continuous changes, Mitchell and Boston are looked at with hawk’s eyes. Lundberg further gave Boston one thing she could try to free herself up. “I think one thing AB can try to do is instead of dribble handoff, turn her shoulder and drive more. She’s had success when she’s really been aggressive, putting the ball on the floor.”

Boston has made only 32.6% percent of points unassisted, which falls in the middle of the pack in Indiana. With this change in role, she could try and change that number. She could use her physicality to ram herself through the defense, as her handles are not good enough to make regular drives. Even if Boston somehow manages to perfect this move, the limitations will always prevent Fever, according to Lundberg.

“I mean, to free AB up, Kelsey Mitchell (is) really the only other player who can score consistently, without being fed the basketball, can score on her own.” he said.

Boston and Mitchell are among the best players in the league, but Wilson is on another level altogether. The Fever are missing Caitlin Clark, who could have offset these problems. Even as the world seemed to be burning around them, their coach was calm and composed after their loss threatened their playoff hopes.

The thing Indiana Fever feared the worst happened, as it has been throughout the season. The Fever needed just one of the two other results to fall their way to have a cushion in that final stretch. They either needed the Mystics to beat the Storm or the Valkyries to fall to the Dallas Wings. The Fever were already going to have a tough time against the Lynx, but the other two games were more balanced.

However, none of their wishes came true, and they have dropped to No.8 with a 19-18 record. The Fever are tied with the Valkyries when it comes to their record, but they lost the tiebreaker when it comes to head-to-head. That could be brought up even more as the season sets in, but Stephanie White is looking at what she can control.

“Just going into these final weeks of the season, into the playoffs, just how much stock you take in the standings at this point?” A reporter asked after the game.

“I think for us, we got to focus on one day at a time,” White answered. “We got to control what we can control, and that’s our next opponent, right? That’s going to be Seattle coming into our place, which is a big one. It’s a big one.”

Their remaining schedule is arguably the hardest of all teams. Like White mentioned, the Storm are next, who are on a three-game winning streak. Then they will face their competitors for eighth place, the Los Angeles Sparks. Kelsey Plum and Co. are on a hot streak, too, while the Fever are on a downward spiral. While many fans and ESPN still believe the Fever can sneak in, it will be an uphill task for White’s team.

We’ve got the marquee matchup of the matchweek today — Newcastle vs. Liverpool. Of course, Liverpool are making eyes at Alexander Isak, so Newcastle will be without their best player against the Reds. It’s really something else how Arne Slot’s side keeps getting to face their toughest opponents missing key players.

West Ham 1 – Chelsea 5

The Hammers are DIRE. It’s tough to get a read on Chelsea from this match — that’s how bad Graham Potter’s side looked. Potter has to be shortest odds to be the first manager sacked at this point. Honestly, they should just pull the trigger. It can’t get any worse than it is (actually, it probably can). They’ve spent terribly for a couple years now, and those chickens have come home to roost.

Manchester City 0 – Tottenham 2

It’s very funny and also very annoying that Manchester City become Cinderella’s carriage at midnight against Spurs — they turn into a (rotting) pumpkin. Except, of course, the one time Arsenal needed something from Spurs against City. I’m not bitter, I swear. This match was more even than a 2-0 scoreline suggests. Spurs converted their chances, City did not. Spurs managed the game well in the second half.

Brentford 1 – Aston Villa 0

Record-signing Dango Ouattara scored on the break in the 11th minute to lift the Bees to the win. Villa have looked worryingly mediocre to open the season. They’re up against it with FFP and haven’t done much business. It shows.

Burnley 2 – Sunderland 0

Josh Cullen scored just after halftime for Burnley and Jaidon Anthony added a late goal. In MW1, Burnley were waxed by Spurs and Sunderland dispatched hapless West Ham, so I don’t know how much we know about either of these sides.

Bournemouth 1 – Wolves 0

Marcus Tavernier scored on a deflected shot in the 5th minute after the Cherries high press pounced on a poor pass by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. Toti Gomes, who picked up a yellow card in the first half, earned a straight red early in the second for DOGSO, which pretty much killed the game.

Crystal Palace 1 – Nottingham Forest 1

Ismaila Sarr gave Palace the lead late in the first half but a Calum Hudson-Odoi equalizer split the points in the MacBeth Derby. The match took a backseat to the drama between the clubs — it was Forest who reported Palace’s ownership structure to UEFA which wound up getting Palace bumped down to the Conference League and Forest getting a spot in the Europa. The Palace fans unfurled a banner depicting Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis holding a gun to Morgan Gibbs-White (referencing Gibbs-White’s apparent “change of heart” that scuppered his move to Spurs), with MGW reciting (on the banner) that the owner is NOT involved in a list of shady / criminal activities. The FA is investigating the banner and Palace will almost assuredly be disciplined for it.

Everton 2 – Brighton 0

The Toffees opened their new stadium Hill Dickinson Stadium with a win. Iliman Ndiaye scored the first goal at the new ground (after scoring the last two goals at Goodison Park). James Garner added to the lead early in the second half with a rocket of a shot into the low corner. Brighton had their chances, but Jordan Pickford played well, including saving a Danny Welbeck penalty, and the Seagulls were wasteful.

Fulham 1 – Manchester United 1

This was an eventful one. Manchester United were awarded a first half penalty by VAR after Calvin Bassey emphatically won the shoving match from a corner with Mason Mount. It probably wasn’t much more than the usual grappling, it’s just that Bassey is a big, strong dude and Mount…isn’t. Bruno Fernandes missed the penalty. Try a normal run-up, you weirdo. United took a second half lead when Leny Yoro’s header went off Rodrigo Muniz. It was credited as an own goal. Emile Smith Rowe evened the score in the 73rd minute off an Alex Iwobi assist — a goal made in Hale End.

* If you’re looking to get away from campus Surly Brewing Co. is a great local brewery with tremendous pizza.
* Sally’s Saloon is more of a traditional college bar with a younger crowd, but still a great pregame spot.
* The Corner Bar and Town Hall Brewery are on the other side of the river, but two great spots for food and drinks if you want to get away from the campus craziness.

* Places To Visit…
* If you have time to kill before the game, a walk to Stone Arch Bridge is a must when in Minneapolis.
* The Walker Art Center is more off campus, but a fun activity if you’re into art.
* A walk around the Minneapolis chain of lakes is a personal favorite, but the location more near south Minneapolis makes it more of a Friday activity or maybe Sunday morning if you’re in town for the weekend.
* The Mall of America has something for just about everyone and a great activity on a Friday or Sunday as well.

October 10th at Washington (Andy Yamashita – Seattle Times’ )

* Places to eat:
* Seattle’s got a lot of options for food. Vietnamese and seafood are kind of big here, but I think the best thing is Seattle-style teriyaki. There’s a million mom and pop teriyaki shops in the city that all more or less make it the same way, but it’s unique to the city and they just make it different in California. If you want some specific ones near campus, I’d say Toshi’s Teriyaki or Teriyaki Madness.
* There’s also a burger chain up here called Dick’s Drive-In that’s pretty famous and a fried chicken chain called Ezell’s in the U-district that’s good.

* Drinks…
* The best bars to watch a game or the football game near campus: Duchess, Big Time Brewery, Earl’s on the Ave, and Varlamos/BARlamos.

* Places To Visit…
* For things to do, just the typical Seattle stuff. Pike Place is a total tourist trap, but everyone usually wants to go once. The waterfront is walkable from there. The Space Needle is in the Seattle Center. Stay out of downtown, worst part of the city. There’s also Capitol Hill, Fremont and Belltown are all kind of the main nightlife areas in the city.

October 25th at Purdue (Jordan Jones – GoldAndBlack.com’s)

* Places to eat:
* Triple XXX Family Restaurant – Since 1929, this diner has served the West Lafayette area. With meals named after Purdue legends like Drew Brees and Ryan Kerrigan, you step into Purdue history when sitting down at the counter.
* Boilerhouse Prime – A brand-new steakhouse located at the highly-regarded Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Steaks, seafood, fine wines and more.

* Drinks…
* Harry’s Chocolate Shop – Once a prohibition-era speakeasy, Harry’s has been a Purdue staple since 1919. It is by far the most beloved watering hole amongst Boilermakers.
* Harry’s is the most famous (and really the only particularly popular) bar on campus.
* The Boiler Up Bar at the Union Club Hotel is a very nice place for a craft cocktail.

* Places To Visit…
* Downtown Lafayette – Over the past quarter century, the growth of downtown Lafayette has been a huge positive for the area. Find plenty of dining and drinking options here, a short drive (or long walk) away from campus

November 1st at Illinois (Doug Bucshon – OrangeAndBlueNews.com’s)

* Places to eat:
* Hamilton Walker’s (Steakhouse & Fine Dining) is consistently ranked one of Champaign’s best spots for premium steaks, seafood, and having impeccable service. It’s good spot for visitors looking for a more fine dining experience and it can be rather pricey.
* Papa Del’s Pizza Factory is a Champaign institution, especially for visitors craving authentic Chicago-style deep dish. The pies are thick, cheesy, and loaded with toppings, served in a lively, family-friendly setting. On University of Illinois game weekends, the place fills up fast with students and fans on game day.

* Drinks…
* KAMS and Legends are packed with students and fans on game day.

* Places To Visit…
* Downtown Champaign serves as the vibrant cultural and culinary heart of the city – just about 1 to 1.2 miles from the University of Illinois campus, making it readily walkable (roughly a 20-minute stroll) or a quick five minute drive. Dining and nightlife thrive here too, with over 35 locally owned restaurants and pubs. Local favorites include the Esquire Lounge for bar food, Black Dog Smoke & Ale House (BBQ), and Seven Saints (gourmet sliders).

November 22nd: at Ohio State (Spencer Holbrook – LettermenRow.com’s)

* Places to eat:
* Chapman’s Eat Market, Arch City Tavern for the Arch City burger
* Club 185 for a greasy spoon spot I love
* Old Mohawk is a good spot for lunch

If you want some finer dining options, Tucci’s in Dublin north of the city, Lindy’s in German Village, and then Butcher and Rose downtown are my three favorites.

La Corrupción como Clave

La corrupción es el elemento central de esta relación. Las carteles no tienen que controlar directamente al gobierno para lograr sus objetivos. En cambio, utilizan la corrupción para obtener protección, evitar arrestos, obtener información y, en general, para socavar el estado de derecho. Esto se logra a través de sobornos, amenazas, y, en algunos casos, incluso la manipulación directa de procesos legales.

Más Allá del Mito

Grillo desmiente la idea de que las carteles son simplemente grupos criminales sin ninguna conexión con el gobierno. En su lugar, presenta un relato de una sociedad mexicana profundamente corrupta, donde el poder y el dinero se cruzan para crear un entorno en el que las carteles pueden prosperar.
